This is what happens when you let our carpenters run wild without supervision. Our customer commissioned a bird house for his garden. His request ? A box and a platform for him to feed the birds, and left the design to us entirely. Though the project only took 3 days to cut and assemble, the design left us stumped as we didn’t know how to even begin. We wanted something unique, that could blend in with the client’s massive garden space yet stands out amongst his exotic plants and flowers.

The design took us 3 weeks and a failed prototype to materialise, but we finally came up with something that we can say we were proud of. The inspiration was a Nordic Pagan temple with elements of a bird house with some modern elements tied in. We wanted to build a tree house for birds, that would sway when the winds blew, but remain steady for the birds to stay in. For the legs, we build multi layers to resemble tree roots and the platforms were leaves with cut outs for the water to drain through. We also chose the humble marine ply, a notoriously difficult material to work with for a fine finish, but specially chosen this time for its rough grains to resemble a tree bark, and also able to withstand the harsh conditions of an outdoor pet furniture.
