One of our most ambitious projects to date, it may look small but it is stocked with features from ground up. Our project brief seemed simple enough. A trolley that can stock up to an A3 canvas, paints, brushes and bottles for washing the brushes. It also has to have a paint mixing area, a paint brush drying area and a small side table for the painter to place something.

Originally, the design was supposed to be a simple trolley, but after some though, we decided to make a clam shell design trolley as with a close of the lid, all the messy paint mixes and brushes can be kept out of sight easily.

Now to complete the aesthetics, we decided to use a single long sheet of herringbone patterned birch ply to to make a waterfall style design to flow down the trolley. Patterned plywood is rarely used by carpenters in Singapore due to the high failure rate and extremely time consuming labour compared to just slapping a piece of laminate on it. Patterned plywood on its own is gorgeous and we knew it would elevate the look of this trolley.

Each strip has to be cut, glued, cut again and laid out carefully

To finish this immensely costly project, we picked an not so cheap finishing oil that cost about $90 for a small 350ml bottle, which barely covered this project. This oil is free from toxin and able to cure to a gorgeous soft touch feel on the trolley.
