Working with artists of other medium is one thing we really look forward to. They usually know what they want and they have a vision that usually goes beyond what we have in mind. This customer also was pretty firm with what she wanted. She pointed to her old Ikea trolley and said Make something simimlar, but make sure it lasts. Her Ikea trolley served her well, but was now hobbling on 2 barely functioning wheels and wobbling each time we pushed it. It was hanging on for dear life.

Now, Ikea is perfect for many home owners, myself included by providing affordable furnitures for new home owners. Their quality is usually pretty alright, but some of their furnitures are just not built to last a lifetime. I have had shelves, cabinets that have started to wobble and fall apart due to their braeak apart fittings and their cheap particle board panels. We love you Ikea, but some of us have to move on to something better.

Taking her Ikea trolley as a benchmark, we made some improvements to the dimensions and decided to make it so much more functional by adding little modules that she can use to hang off the sides of her new trolley. This system is called a french cleat system.

To make it last, we added dual low profile castor wheels that is smooth and can hold huge weights without it looing out of place. And lastly, we added walnut side trimmins to her boxes to match her quilt patterns. 2 herringbone patterned birch ply was used as her new A-Frame to complete the trolley.

Needless to say, this was an interesting project.
